nIs anyone ever ready for the death of a  Loved one ? Can you be ready? and When should you start Planning?

n

No matter how much we hear about the situation from other people, family or friends, the final care for a parent or loved one can be a trying experience for anyone.
nRecently, this writer’s 92 year old mother died, and no matter how old a person may be when they die, it hurts, we will miss them. The problem wasn’t her death,
nwe can all expect to die some day and it hurts when we loose someone no matter the age, but the real problems are about care before death, the funeral and that person’s
nfinal wishes about their medical condition, the care and custody, their funeral and final wishes.
n
n
nThere are so many considerations that come up when a loved one dies…
n
n
     1
. What are the final wishes of the deceased?
n    2. Is there a living will?
n    3. Should there be a DNR on file? (Do Not Resuscitate
n    4. Where should we have the funeral?
n    5. What is the typical cost?
n    6. How much should we spend more on a casket?
n    7. Who takes care of the arrangements?
n
    8. Who takes care of the announcements, the church, the cars, the transportation etc.?

n
nTypically everyone has questions after the death of a loved one, but really shouldn’t we be prepared ahead of time, this is a conversation that should happen years before the death of anyone occurs.
nUnfortunately no one likes to talk about it, and with people living a lot longer, we push off those decisions even further.
nThe death of a loved one can be a frightening experience, but for a family who has never experienced it before and one who has limited resources,
nit is not only detrimental to their financial well-being, it can be a daunting burden. Unfortunately, many have to make these decisions under stress and conflict.
nAnd this writer can tell you from personal experience that many issues will come up you never even thought about.
nFor these and dozens of other reasons, its important to have create A Living Will, Funeral Plan and Funding trategy to pay for it.
n
nFor instance, One can sign a DNR in the hospital, but as we found out, that DNR doesn’t include methods to ease the pain and suffering of a person
n
whose demised may be imminent but could take hours or days.   For Legal reasons and HIPPA  Issues (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) A family member can
nhave misplaced rules and burdens thrust on them at a really insane moment.

n

nThe HIPAA Privacy Rule

n

n

n

n

n

The HIPAA Privacy Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals’ medical records and other personal health information and applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, and those health care providers that conduct certain health care transactions electronically.  The Rule requires appropriate safeguards to protect the privacy of personal health information, and sets limits and conditions on the uses and disclosures that may be made of such information without patient authorization. The Rule also gives patients rights over their health information, including rights to examine and obtain a copy of their health records, and to request corrections.
n
nWhat this rule doesn’t allow is a family member to make decisions for a patient who is under distress. We experienced this first hand, the medical professionals were shackled by procedures, rules and regulations while our family member suffered. We, and the on duty medical professional were unable to help our loved one in the middle of the night,
nand Our family felt helpless and guilty.
n
nA lot of these issues can be corrected by specifying terms conditions and the final wishes of a potential deceased if  arranged ahead of time.
nIts smart to sit down years before any of these things happen and write down exactly what you want to occur.

n
nFirst Thing Set up a Living Will…
n
nA Living Will is defined as a written statement detailing a person’s desires regarding their medical treatment in circumstances in which they are no longer able
nto express informed consent, especially an advance directive.

n
nImportant considerations- One person to make the decisions based on what you want. Having several siblings or children arguing back and forth during the situation can be horrible , writing clear concise directions ahead of time can help prevent internal fighting, bad words and hurt feelings.
n
n
Make sure you have a Final Will and testament.
n

nA legal will specifying who gets what and how things are processed will go a long way to prevent hurt feelings among the survivors and family member
nand will re-direct any animosity that may occur from the disposition of assets.
n
n

nSet Up a Final Expense Insurance Policy
n
nMoney can be a problem at any stage of life, but when a loved one dies finding the money to assure that they have a desired funeral shouldn’t  be a concern. The Surviving
nmembers of your family may be under enough aggravation and distress, and no matter what your present financial situation, one can not guarantee that there will be enough money
nleft over after a prolonged illness or hospital stay. Even those who have very serious financial resources can suffer economic hardship and mis-steps at an inopportune time or have an issue liquidating resources in a timely matter.  And many of us say now, ” I don’t need a funeral , don’t spend any money on me” But Funerals are as much for the family as they are for the deceased. they are a way to honor the dead and help deal with the grief.  And today’s Funerals can be anywhere from $8000 to over $20,000.00  and there are costs most don’t even think about, like opening up a current family plot, the requirement of an air tight crypts, announcements and the repose diner after the funeral which is a tradition for most but not a requirement.  All of these things can add up, and if one had a $15,000 to $50,000 Senior Final Expense Life Insurance policy all these expenses would be paid for
nwith money to be left to anyone as a final legacy.
n
nEven if one has sufficient financial resources a final expense insurance policy is easy to get without the requirement of medical examinations prolonged reviews and tedious test.
nFinal Expense insurance is also very affordable and if one procures a Whole Life Policy the final amount will be paid  at age 100 or at death, as long as payments are made on a timely basis. There are many reasons to consider a policy for you and your family. Please consult your local financial professional for additional information
nor call us at I & E Insurance Agency directly at 732-295-5584, we’ll be happy to assess your situation and help you set up a plan and program to help you and your family for the
